Lauren Oliver Book Signing!

If you stopped by and checked out my Monthly Review for September, then you may know that I attended a Lauren Oliver book signing towards the end of the month! I've been to a few book signings before, but this one was definitely one of my favorites!

First off, this signing was happening on one of the busiest days. I had school from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and luckily had about an hour and a half or so to get there. The signing started at 7:00 pm, and I even made it there with twenty or so minutes to spare!

Of course, I didn't go alone, but instead I dragged Shawnee from the YA Fiction Review to go with me!

The night before I couldn't handle all the excitement that was built up inside of me, and decided to tweet Lauren Oliver, that I was coming and that I was pumped to finally get to meet her. I knew she was in Portland that day, and had no idea if she would see or even reply to my tweet...but when I woke up the next morning, I realized she did...

You think I was excited before? I almost died after I read this! I could barely sit still or pay attention in any of my classes, that how much adrenaline was running through me!

I meet up with Shawnee right after my third and final class, and we headed straight to Seattle! It did take us a little over an hour to get there, but it wasn't an issue at all. We talked about Lauren Oliver's books, how much we enjoyed them, and listened to some radio.

Our biggest worry was that we didn't come early enough, and that a crap ton of people would already be sitting down and lined up. Once we got there, that worry was quickly washed away, because there were no more than fifteen or so people there.

Lauren Oliver was originally there to talk about and discuss her first adult book, Rooms, but of course there was no way we weren't going and getting our YA books signed.

Lauren Oliver started off by discussing her newest release, comparing the writing styles of Adult, YA and Middle Grade, and continued on with some personal facts about herself. After that she was more than willing to answer a few questions! Even about the Delirium show, and the possibility of Panic becoming a movie!

After that was done, she sat down and signed books. Being the complete nerd that I am, I had her sign all five of my books, and chatted with her for a little bit.

If I hadn't spent the whole day struggling through school, and driving to meet her (and looking like a COMPLETE mess) I would have without a doubt taken a picture with her. But I had, had the longest day, and wasn't even trying to know what I looked like at the time.

Overall both Shawnee and I had a good time, and were happy that we made it out! I wasn't sure how it was all going to work out, but it did, and actually VERY smoothly! If Lauren Oliver ever comes to visit near you, you HAVE to go see her! She is absolutely hilarious, smart and very friendly!

  3. Awesome! So jealous. Love her books. I have never been to a book signing before because I live in Germany and most of the authors that I like live in the US.
