Clearing My TBR Update #1

Sundays are usually my book haul days...but obviously that's not going to happen when I'm trying to empty out my book shelves and clear my TBR...

I wasn't sure what I would be posting on Sundays from now on... I have a pretty set schedule in mind, for which day of the week which type of post goes up. And I couldn't think of anything, that wouldn't clash or be awkward between the other posts I had planned around Sundays...

Instead, I decided I would do my TBR updates. Changes in my TBR aren't be too big or drastic within seven days, but I figured updating you all weekly, with either review books that came in, books that went out, and overall the struggle I'm facing when it comes to this entire process.

Also I thought that this weekly update would keep my focused on at least doing something small, each week to keep pushing forward and getting closer to my goal. I'm pretty sure, if I didn't do this post every Sunday, that the entire idea of clearing out my TBR will get lost in between and under everything else in life.

*WILL BE INCLUDING NEW UPDATE PICTURE LATER*

This first week, honestly hasn't been too bad. I spent the entire week working, hanging out, or reading. I was busy and didn't even think of heading out to the book store. Besides that, I feel like the first few weeks (maybe even months) will be the easiest, simply because I still have so many books to choose from. But once my selection of reading material minimizes and I'm down to the last 50-100 books, I think that's when I'll be having some troubles.

I still haven't gotten rid of the 18 books I unhauled last week, which I really need to do. They're not sitting on my shelf anymore, but instead are sitting in the hallway, in two large stacks. I'm not really sure what I should do with them. I think I'm going to pick out a few that I can include in next month's giveaway, but other than that I'm probably going to bring them to my local Half Price.

AND when I do! I'm going to record the entire process!

I tried doing this last time, but didn't think to bring my actual camera and was stuck with my phone. The entire video was bad quality and about 7 minutes in, I didn't have enough storage space on my phone to continue...This time I'm bringing my camera, and I'm excited to show you guys around!

Other than that, I did find some more books in my shelves that I won't be reading, and will be getting rid of. But I'll save those for the next unhaul video and update.

...I think that's about it for me..I'm excited to see a clear shelve, with just my favorite books. I'm excited to decorate them, with cute book ends and knick knacks! And I hope you all follow me in my journey!

Book Unhaul?

Because I hauled so many books before I started my book buying ban (you know, to get rid of the urge), I decided now that it has actually started, that I should unhaul books I KNOW I won't be reading or re-reading.

A lot of the books I'm going to show you are books that have been sitting on shelves for a while now, and when I purchased them they interested me. But as the years went on my interests changed and they just don't sound appealing. Some of the books are books I've already read, that weren't my absolute favorite and I know I won't be reading again. Others are books that I purchased on a whim, usually because they were just too cheap to pass up.

I don't know what I'm going to do with these books. Maybe I'll give them to you guys, maybe I'll sell them, or give them to my friends. I'm not sure yet, I wouldn't mind giving all of these books away to you guys. But leave your ideas down below in the comments!

If you checked out my "last book haul" you know I purchased a total of 18 books. So my goal in this unhauling was to get rid of at least 18 books. And I did.

Here they are,

Generation Dead (Generation Dead, #1)Kiss of Life (Generation Dead, #2)The Ghost and the Goth (The Ghost and the Goth, #1)Queen of the Dead (The Ghost and the Goth, #2)

Pure, by Julianna Baggot.
Picture Me Gone, by Meg Rosoff.
Take Me There, by Carolee Dean.
The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak.

Stealing Bases, by Keri Mikulski.
I Like Him, He Likes Her, by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.

I know some of you are thinking, "WHAT? Why would you get rid of that?!" But it's just time. I need space for books that I love and I'm I don't want to waste my time reading books that I'm not DYING to read.

What books are you unhauling?

Half Way Book Buying Ban...? YES!

If you stopped by yesterday you may have seen my last "official" book haul of 18 books. Which is the start to the end of buying WAY too many books, and being unable to catch up on my TBR pile.

My TBR pile right now is nearing 200 books, which is absolutely ridiculous, and it should never have gotten to that high of a number. I'm tired of looking at my overcrowded shelf, feeling horrible about all of the books I've purchased but haven't read..

(BEFORE: Day #1)

I want to have a neat book shelf, with my favorite books, and just a handful of books which are unread. I want to decorate it and have books ends that match, but right now, there isn't room for books ends. The way my shelves crowded, there is no point in having cute book ends.

So in a way, I guess I'm saying that I'm going to restrict my book buying, or ban it all together for a little while...kind of. I don't want to say that I'm not buying books until my TBR is completely gone, but I do want to minimize the amount of unread books I have, and the overall number of books on my shelves.

But the issue with doing this is that I have so many books in series, where I don't own the entire series.I still really want to read them, but to do so I will have to buy the installments first...and later get rid of them again. In my last book haul you'll see a few of these installments, because I kept that in mind while shopping.

I also have a TON of stand alone books and completed series, so that's where I'm going to start.

This book buying "ban-ish" thing doesn't mean I'm going to be reading less, or doing any less reviewing or blogging. OF COURSE I'm still going to accept review books, and review the books I own, but I'm just going to minimize my TBR and the amount of books I actually keep. Once I've done that, I will be buying books that I plan to read within the month. When I'm done reading those, I'll keep the ones I LOVE and get rid of all the others. Then do that whole process over again.

Here are the first initial steps I'm going to take to do this:

1. Go through my shelf and get rid of books I KNOW I won't be reading.
2. Get rid of books that I've read, and didn't COMPLETELY LOVE.
3. Start reading standalones and entire series that I own.

After every few weeks, I'll update you on what I've read, gotten rid of, and the number of unread books on my shelf, along with the total number of books.

Right now I'm standing at a total of 359 books and 229 of those are unread. This is a large ratio of unread to read, but that is because I tend to get rid of the books I read and didn't really enjoy.

I am actually a little bit scared, and nervous because I've never done anything like this. I love buying books and its become a hobby to just wander the local book stores. But looking at my shelf, I know this buying ban is long over due. I'm excited to have my bookshelf looking cute and decorated with my favorite books.

Have you guys faced this issue? How many books are on your TBR?

Book Haul: The Last One...Sorta

Welcome to Turning Pages!

This will be my last book haul for a while now. If you've stopped by in the last two days you may have seen my post, "That Moment When Your Book Shelves Take Over Your Room". If you haven't, go there now and read about the struggle I'm facing!

I've decided to have one more book haul before I started my "Clear The TBR" Challenge. And what better way to have a book haul than from Half Price Books, the Book Outlet and a library sale? "Clear The TBR" is something I plan on doing in the few upcoming months; I'll be posting about it in a few days to give you guys all the details!

I know, starting a "Clear The TBR" is a book haul probably isn't the best way, but I did stay mindful when shopping, to buy books that I needed to complete series.

I picked up a few awesome books I'm excited to read, and I'm excited to finally get around to showing you.

All Together Dead, by Charlaine Harris.

So those are 18 books....I know, I'm the worst. But I felt like I needed one last good book haul to finish off. I'm excited to start reading some of the older books that have been sitting on my shelf for years. And I'm excited to see how far I can minimize my TBR. I also very excited to see my book shelves start to clear out, so I can keep a handful of my favorite books and keep it nicely decorated.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? What books have you recently purchased? Let me know in the comments!
