Book Review #23: Twenty Boy Summer

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah OcklerTitle: Twenty Boy Summer.
Author: Sarah Ockler.
Format: Paperback.
Series: Nope.
Publisher: Little Brown.
Publication Date: June 1, 2009.

Summary:

"Don't worry, Anna. I'll tell her, okay? Just let me think about the best way to do it."
"Okay."
"Promise me? Promise you won't say anything?"
"Don't worry." I laughed. "It's our secret, right?"

According to her best friend Frankie, twenty days in Zanzibar Bay is the perfect opportunity to have a summer fling, and if they meet one boy ever day, there's a pretty good chance Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna lightheartedly agrees to the game, but there's something she hasn't told Frankie---she's already had that kind of romance, and it was with Frankie's older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death one year ago."

Cover Opinion: 5/5
I love it, I love how symbolic it is towards the story. The pieces of blue and red are pieces of sea glass. Throughout the story Anna mentions how Matt would always tell her red sea glass was rare and hard to find. And just as Matt would leave a penny on the ground (so others could have some luck), Anna throws the red piece of glass she finds back into the ocean (so others can see it)!(:

Character:
In Twenty Boy Summer, I feel like all the characters are great. None are snobby or selfish. Everyone has their own personalities, every one's dealing with the same thing, but very differently. I really loved each and every character in this book(:

Storyline: 5/5
Just like Jo Knowles (author of Lessons from a Dead Girl) said, "Breaks your heart and puts it back together again." I can easily say this is the first book, where my heart was touched (yeah I did cry a little!).

This book follows a girl through her journey of not only losing one of her best friends but also her very first love. Before he (Matt) passed, Anna promised him not to tell Frankie (Matt's sister, and another of their best friends), so Matt could tell her himself.

A year or so after Matt's death, Frankie's family decides to go on their yearly vacation to the beach. During these three week's Anna, learns to deal with other boys, learning that Matt will never be erased from her mind, he'll always be part of her, she also learns that it's ok to move on.

If you need a good cry, this is the book for you. I really enjoyed it, definitely one of my top ten:D
