It's Monday, What Am I Reading?

Welcome to Turning Pages!

It's been a while since I've read more than a single book at a time...let alone three.

The Madman's Daughter (The Madman's Daughter, #1)Title: The Madman's Daughter.
Author: Megan Sheperd.
Summary:

"In the darkest places, even love is deadly.

Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations are true.

Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward—both of whom she is deeply drawn to—Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father's madness: He has experimented on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans. And worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius—and madness—in her own blood."

My Thoughts So Far:

Only five chapters in, I've always been sucked in, grossed out, and completely enticed! In only a few pages I witnessed a scene that gave me chills, down to my bones. I've read books that were claimed to be scary, or gruesome, but none of those books have ever made me feel this way, in just the first forty pages!

Don't Even Think About ItTitle: Don't Even Think About It.
Author: Sarah Mlynowski.
Summary:

"We weren't always like this. We used to be average New York City high school sophomores. Until our homeroom went for flu shots. We were prepared for some side effects. Maybe a headache. Maybe a sore arm. We definitely didn't expect to get telepathic powers. But suddenly we could hear what everyone was thinking. Our friends. Our parents. Our crushes. Now we all know that Tess is in love with her best friend, Teddy. That Mackenzie cheated on Cooper. That, um, Nurse Carmichael used to be a stripper.

Since we've kept our freakish skill a secret, we can sit next to the class brainiac and ace our tests. We can dump our boyfriends right before they dump us. We know what our friends really think of our jeans, our breath, our new bangs. We always know what's coming. Some of us will thrive. Some of us will crack. None of us will ever be the same.
So stop obsessing about your ex. We're always listening."

My Thoughts So Far:

With spring break just around the corner, and winter finally behind us, I was looking for a lighter, more fun type of read to start this week, and Don't Even Think About It was what I chose. I haven't gotten too far into it, I just started yesterday, but so far its been cute and funny! I can't wait to see the four best friends embrace their ability and see what they decide to do with it!

Playing Pretend
Title: Playing Pretend.
Author: Juliana Haygert.
Summary:

"As the Governor’s daughter, Charlotte McClain is an expert in playing pretend. High society, the men her mother shoves in her direction and a Pre-Law major are all a part of her perfect pretense. But when she pretends to be a nobody during Spring Break, she meets someone who rocks her world.

Mason Rowell knows heartbreak and Spring Break don’t mesh well, so he allows the mysterious Charlotte to seduce him. What should have been a fling, results in something deeper. After Spring Break has long since passed, he moves to Washington to pursue his graduate degree, but what he never expected to find living among the rich and pompous, was the girl who gave him the strength to change and the desire to start anew.

When the guy Charlotte can’t forget goes from a sensual memory to temptation in the flesh, her facade is put to the test. If she surrenders to his charms, she risks ruining her mother’s perfect career and master plan. Playing pretend is what Charlotte does best, but how long can she pretend she doesn't love the man who made her proud of her true self?"

My Thoughts So Far:

I was asked to review this book for a tour coming up in three days, and started it just the other day...I'm already over seventy percent through and loving it! While I don't really like insta-love stories, Playing Pretend doesn't start when Mason and Charlotte first meet, but actually a week later. It's not the same old story, and I can't seem to put it down!

I know three books is a lot! But I have excuses! One is on my computer and needs to be reviewed in a few days. The other is a book from netgalley, on my ipad, and needs to be reviewed before the end of the month, and last book is just for fun!

If you've read any of these books feel free to comment down below with your thoughts!

    1. Yeah, it was pretty scary, and gruesome! I never read three books at a time, but I'm almost finished with two of them, so I'll just be back to normal soon! (:

  3. I didn't care for Don't Even Think About It because there were SO many character POV's, but it was definitely quick and light. I hope you like it!

    1. I've been getting into a bit more, and all of a sudden the point of view changed...it went from a narrator, to one of the kids talking...so I was a bit thrown off.

    1. I haven't read too much farther into Madman's Daughter, because I've been reading the other two more. But Playing Pretend is getting better and better, while Don't Even Think About It is still good but a bit confusing.
