Summary:

"We weren't always like this. We used to be average New York City high school sophomores. Until our homeroom went for flu shots. We were prepared for some side effects. Maybe a headache. Maybe a sore arm. We definitely didn't expect to get telepathic powers. But suddenly we could hear what everyone was thinking. Our friends. Our parents. Our crushes. Now we all know that Tess is in love with her best friend, Teddy. That Mackenzie cheated on Cooper. That, um, Nurse Carmichael used to be a stripper.

Since we've kept our freakish skill a secret, we can sit next to the class brainiac and ace our tests. We can dump our boyfriends right before they dump us. We know what our friends really think of our jeans, our breath, our new bangs. We always know what's coming. Some of us will thrive. Some of us will crack. None of us will ever be the same.
So stop obsessing about your ex. We're always listening."

My Thoughts:

*Thank you Delacorte Press and Netgalley for providing a copy of Don't Even Think About It for review!*

What would you do, if you went in to get your flu shots, and woke up the next morning expecting to have a few symptons, but now can hear everyone's thoughts? What would you do when you hear your parents having sex in the bedroom next door, or that your school nurse has a previous career of stripping?

This is exactly what happens to a group of New York High School students! Unsure of what to do with their newly discovered powers, these average teenagers have no idea if they should tell someone and who? If they did tell, what would they do to them? Would they run crazy tests on them? These guys, are normal teenagers...they AREN'T SUPERMAN! And they're not trying to SAVE THE WORLD!

Deciding not to tell anyone just yet, the group heads out, and discovers things about their friends, families and each other. Mackenzie is cheating on her boyfriend, Cooper, Olivia starts dating a new guy, who's a complete jerk, and Tess who has been crushing on her best friend for SO long now, but he's got his eye on another girl!

But who wouldn't want to be telepathic? When you can easily cheat on tests, know what that cute guy on your date is thinking and when someone is gossiping about you!

The temporary nurse at school is acting suspicious and starting to ask questions, the teenagers don't know what to do. Some just want this horrible nightmare to end, and others are afraid of what might happen to them. It's a tough decision to make, and a decision that will affect the rest of their lives.

Final Verdict:

Don't Even Think About It, was a fun and entertaining read! Next time someone asks me, if I could have any superpower which would it be? I definitely wouldn't say telepathy!

Picking up Don't Even Think About It, I was looking for a lighter type of story. I wasn't expecting a group of students, who go from average to wanting to save the world with their newly discovered super power, and that's exactly what I got!

If I was in their shoes, I would have done the same thing! I would have been afraid to tell anyone, and if I did finally muster up the nerve, I wouldn't have a CLUE who to tell! I would much rather have fun with this new power, and use it to see what my boyfriend was thinking (can I change my answer to that previous question?).

I did adore Don't Even Think About It, but I did encounter two points that I wanted to discuss. One, the massive amounts of characters and they're perspectives. I just found it a bit confusing at times, and didn't know who I was listening to. Perspectives didn't start and end at chapters, but instead switched randomly. After reading for a bit, I got into the routine, but still it took me a while.

The second thing, was the ending. I was hoping for a more intense kind of ending. Obviously nothing to crazy, like the planet turning inside out or something. But I wanted to see the nurse try to confront the students multiple times, instead of once or twice. I wanted her to try to chase them down, and force them to admit what was going on. I didn't really like that the group kind of just spit it out, right away.

Overall, I loved the characters! I thought they were lovable and humorous! The story was funny and enjoyable! Some of them would hear people thinking or doing the most hilarious things. I loved Sarah Mlynowski's Ten Things We Did And Probably Shouldn't Have, and I LOVED Don't Even Think About It for the same exact reasons!

    1. Before I read this one, there were a lot of mixed reviews! Some saying it just wasn't their cup of tea and that they expected more. This isn't a world ending type of book, but more chicklit! If you went out to watch a movie with your girlfriends, this would be like one of those movies. If you've read Ten Things We Did And Probably Shouldn't Have, and enjoyed it, you'll like this one too!

  4. I'm glad you liked it so much :D I just couldn't love this one as much as I was hoping to! I just found the characters a little too. . .juvenile? They're thought process baffled me at sometimes and I found myself skipping parts of the book. Oh well!
    Happy reading

    1. I can see where you would feel that way, I thought they we didn't think the entire thing through as well as I hoped they would. But if I would have telepathic powers, I think I would freak out and be completely lost, with no idea what to do. Sorry you didn't enjoy this as much as you hoped to!

  5. I really like the idea of suddenly have telepathic abilities, but does this book have a real plot? I didn't really get a sense of what they are doing with their powers, aside from eavesdropping people's thoughts and finding out who has crushes on whom.

    1. There was a plot, but it wasn't as detailed or in depth as many people thought it would be. But I considered it a lighter read. I was expecting these teenagers to be much more focused on rumors, gossip and their own secrets, than the greater issues at hand. Its more of a chick flick kind of thing!

  6. I'm mostly likely never going to read this book because multiple POV's? I can barley handle two. This book would give me nightmares -shudders-. Great review though!

    1. Yeah, that was the hardest thing for me. It wasn't really different point of views, so it wasn't the different characters talking. But instead it would constantly switch scenes to follow different characters. I have to admit it was hard to keep up at first and remember who was doing what, but after a while I caught on. Sorry to hear you're not picking this one up!
