Summary:

"I can’t weep. I can’t fear. I’ve grown talented at pretending.

Elizabeth Caldwell doesn’t feel emotions . . . she sees them. Longing, Shame, and Courage materialize around her classmates. Fury and Resentment appear in her dysfunctional home. They’ve all given up on Elizabeth because she doesn’t succumb to their touch. All, that is, save one—Fear. He’s intrigued by her, as desperate to understand the accident that changed Elizabeth’s life as she is herself.

Elizabeth and Fear both sense that the key to her past is hidden in the dream paintings she hides in the family barn. But a shadowy menace has begun to stalk her, and try as she might, Elizabeth can barely avoid the brutality of her life long enough to uncover the truth about herself. When it matters most, will she be able to rely on Fear to save her?"

My Thoughts:

Some Quiet Place is like no other Paranormal YA book, definitely new and refreshing from the usual!

(SO HAPPY!)

When I was offered to review this book I had no clue what it was about. The beautiful cover was all I saw, and decided to pick it. Man, oh man. And am I REALLY glad I did! If you purchase this book, I recommend pushing it to the top of your TBR list; I definitely regret not doing so!

Some Quiet Place revolves around a girl named Elizabeth who has the ability to see emotions and elements in human forms, but she can’t feel these emotions herself. She doesn’t feel anger, sadness, love or embarrassment…not matter how hard she tried or how hard she pretended to. She doesn’t even feel Fear, when he continues to send horrific scenes into her mind.

Elizabeth has no idea how or why this is happening to her, but she thinks that the nightmares she is having, have something to do with it. That maybe they’re clues. Her family knows nothing about this, but they noticed that after being hit by a car, over fifteen years ago, and walking away with only a few scrapes and bumps, Liz wasn’t herself. She wasn’t the little girl they knew.

Besides trying discover and regain her ability to feel emotions, Elizabeth is also dealing with her friend dying from cancer, her mother being scared of her, her alcoholic father beating her, and her relationship with Fear.

Fear, Fear, Fear.

I have so much to say about him. At first he seems a little mysterious and sinister, I wasn’t really sure why he was around Liz so much, and why he was interested in her. Other emotions would say hello or even hold a conversation with Elizabeth but nothing like what Fear would do. But as the story goes on, he starts to open up, and become extremely sweet. He even risks his job as an emotion, and almost dies (is that what emotions do? Die?) to save her! Awhh!

I’m not sure how a relationship works between a human and a emotion…but I LOVE it! They’re completely different, but perfect for one another.

Overall Kelsey Sutton’s Some Quiet Place had my full attention and I couldn’t seem to get enough of it! I’ve read a few books, where characters “weren’t” able to feel emotions, but none of those characters came close to Elizabeth! Sutton’s writing was so intricate and enticing I felt like I was under a spell that wasn’t going to let me put the book down. This was such a different story, filled with twists and turns. I promise you, that you won’t be able to guess or even believe how it ends...I still can’t!!

While I can admit that the story was a bit slow half way through, I felt that the ending makes up for it. Also about halfway through the book I was starting to fear a love triangle, but thank goodness Kelsey Sutton veered away from that path. I felt that there was already a lot going on, and other elements of the story I rather focus on, instead of a love triangle.

It’s not too often that I reread books, but this WILL be one of those!
