Movie Review: Divergent.

As my friend is sitting next to me, just typing up a storm for her Divergent movie review, I just realized I spent the last thirty minutes looking at Divergent pictures, GIFs and memes...what? I can't help it! They look so SO GOOD!

Both Shawnee @ YA Fiction Review and I went to see Divergent, together, on March 22, just the next day after it hit the theaters! While I wasn't able to go see it the midnight before, I was still happy to see it the first weekend it was out, and since we decided to see it before lunch time, tickets were only $6 instead of the usual $12.

AMAZING MOVIE? AMAZING PRICE? UHH!
Can it get any better?

I absolutely LOVED Divergent! I thought the movie stuck pretty well with the book!

There a few things that weren't featured in the movie; the scene where Peter stabs Edward in the eye, Christine's romance with Will isn't as obvious, and Tris's friendships with the other initiates aren't shown as much as they are in the book either.  As some of you might have heard the rumors it's true Uriah wasn't in the movie either...

I understand that not every single moment or detail of the book could have been included in the movie, but COME ON, I was waiting for the BUTTER KNIFE!

I was a bit skeptical about the actors they picked for some of the characters and how well they would be able to capture the characters I came to know and love, in the book! But all my worries were cleansed only fifteen minutes into the movie! I thought they did a great job with picking Shailene Woodley for Tris and Theo James for Four. Not only did they do a KICK BUTT job at bringing the characters from Divergent to the big screen but also the relationship these two characters had with each other.

Besides doing AMAZING work with translating the relationship between Tris and Four across, I was completely in awe with the way they showed how strong Tris became throughout the initiations. I didn't think I could enjoy this part of the book anymore than I already did! Not only did they incorporate the knife throwing scene but also when they learn to fight hand to hand combat.

OR!!!

(I'm not even sure which one looks cooler!!? UGHHH SO MUCH AWESOMENESS!)

Don't even get me started on how much I freakin' LOVED the fear landscape! Because I could go on and on about just how crazy the crows were, the drowning, the dog and then her fear with Four! These scenes were just how I imagined them when I was reading the book! It's truly crazy just how similar the image in my head is to the picture on the screen...*mind blown*....

Could the ending be any better? I love strong lead female characters, and I love Tris for being one! The way she handled the entire ending was perfect. She stuck it to Jeanine, and stopped the Dauntless from killing anymore of the Abnegation and I'm happy just how well it played out in the movie, like it did in the book. Such a good ending, was SO proud of Tris!

So while I was a bit sad not to see the butter knife stabbing, Tris's deep friendships with the other initiates, and Uriah not being included in the movie at all, Divergent was everything I wanted, expected and more! I'm already dying to see Insurgent, and what surprises it will hold for all of it's fans!

....When is it coming out?...

...just kidding, we probably have to wait like a year...and a half...or more....*heart broken*

  1. HAHAHA I was nodding along and mentally creating a check list at everything you've mentioned about the Divergent movie!! It was not THE BEST but they certainly did a great job! I was quite skeptical about Shailene Woodley was Tris because she's NOT Tris in my mind. Then when the movie started-- holy shit. I'm not seeing Shailene anymore. All there is is Tirs =D AMAZING!!

FAVOURITE SCENE HAS GOT TO BE ZIPLINING. OF COURSE <3

  2. UGHH! THE ZIP-LINING! Was SO good! She almost crashed into the wall! Oh gosh! I just wasn't sure how Shailene would come across as Tris. I've only seen Shailene in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and wasn't too impressed with her acting...but she did amazing and I LOVED it!

  3. I agree with you totally. This movie was AMAZING, but not the best of the best. But I really hope Insurgent comes to be one of the best movies ever because it is my favorite book of the series.

Favorite Scene has to be the Capture the Flag and Ferris Wheel! :)

    1. My favorite book was Divergent. I thought both Insurgent and Allegiant lacked in the characters. But still excited to see the movies!
