"A computer-hacking teen. The girl who wants to save him. And a rogue mirror reflection that might be the death of them both.

In private, seventeen-year-old Brandon hacks bank accounts just for the thrill of it. In public, he looks like any other tattooed bad boy with a fast car and devil-may-care attitude. He should know: he’s worked hard to maintain that façade. With inattentive parents who move constantly from city to city, he’s learned not to get tangled up in things like friends and relationships. So he’ll just keep living like a machine, all gears and wires.

Then two things shatter his carefully-built image: Emma, the kind, stubborn girl who insists on looking beneath the surface – and the small matter of a mirror reflection that starts moving by itself. Not only does Brandon’s reflection have a mind of its own, but it seems to be grooming him for something—washing the dye from his hair, yanking out his piercings, swapping his black shirts for … pastels. Then it tells him: it thinks it can live his life better, and it’s preparing to trade places.

And when it pulls Brandon through the looking-glass, not only will he need all his ill-gotten hacking skills to escape, but he’s going to have to face some hard truths about who he’s become. Otherwise he’ll be stuck in a digital hell until he’s old and gray, and no one will even know he's gone."

My Review:

Before I completely jump into my review of Duplicity, I want to explain why this review is up today, instead of it's release day (Tuesday). I had finished reading the book, was excited to finally be able to review, but just couldn't do it. Tuesday I had two finals, one in the morning (where I studied the entire night before) and one at night (where I studied the entire day of). Wednesday I was called in early to work, meaning I worked a 9 hour shift, and yesterday was my first official day off from school and work; where I cleaned the slob bathroom I've been dealing with the beginning of last week and did some much needed shopping.

So long story short, I couldn't get it up because a little bit of life got in the way. But I'm here today and I'm EXCITED to be able to tell you all about Duplicity!

The world we live in today completely revolves around technology; everything we do involves it in one way or another. Computers, cell phones, radios, etc. Everywhere you go and look, technology surrounds us. As well as hackers, who try to steal our personal information.

One of those hackers is named Brandon; a misunderstood junior in high school, that spends most of his time hacking others' computers and accounts looking for social security numbers. While he is well known in the hacking community, and able to hack into anything without any troubles, his real life is a whole different thing. He is still dealing with the break up with his ex, he isn't keeping up with school, and his parents believe that he is a failure.

Brandon is at the point in his life where he thinks everything is pointless. He doesn't see why he needs to go to classes, he doesn't understand why his parents treat him like a convict, and he doesn't see the point of having friends, let alone a girlfriend. He spends most of his time hacking. But his mind starts to change a bit, after a encounter with a girl named Emma. Emma attends school, does good in classes, and catches Brandon's attention whenever she walks into the room. Emma is above Brandon's level, and he knows it. Doing what he does to everyone that gets close to him he starts to push her away, but it isn't that easy when it comes to her. He can't seem to get her out of his mind.

Life is normal as Brandon has just finished another hacking job, but as he is about to shut off his computer something goes wrong. He's computer is acting strange, and words start to make their way across the screen. Brandon can't believe that someone is trying to hack him...but as he has no other option he switches off the internet, but as Brandon glances one more time at his screen, the words continue to appear...

Brandon isn't sure how this is happening...but he knows someone is messing with him, threatening him about hacking. But how?

He decides it's nothing, and heads off. But as he passes the mirror in his room, he notices something. Something strange and impossible...his mirror image isn't mirroring him...

As the day goes on, and Brandon walks past a mirror, things are changing. He starts to lose his piercings one at a time, his tattoos start coming off, his "permanent" hair dye simply washes out. Brandon doesn't know what's going on, or who is doing this to him, but it's getting worse and worse.

Of course Emma is worried, and Brandon has no one else to tell, he decides to spill to her everything that has been going on the last few days. AND of course she doesn't believe him, and instead thinks he is making all of these changes for her.

That is until he gets sucked into a mirror, replaced by a look-a-like and is basically a slave to hacking through a secret government program. Brandon is suppose to spend the next twenty years of his life there, while his look-a-like becomes a good citizen to society! As if you want to know how this all works out, you're going to have to read the book for yourself!

There are a lot of things that caught my attention, and things that I enjoyed. Including the cast of characters; Brandon was a teenage kid who doesn't really know who he is, or want he wants to do. His parents are living in their own personal bubbles, always judging Brandon, but never giving the time of day. Emma is the little bit of light in his life, that soon starts leading his way.

Besides that I LOVED the entire idea of this "project" and the fact that the government is behind the entire thing. What a COOL idea?! Hackers are hard to catch, and why put them into a prison cell, if we could use their skills?

I generally enjoyed Duplicity, but I wish some things were explained more and not left untold. For example, the history behind the project; I really wanted to know how this entire thing started, and how they were able to run it without anyone truly knowing. I also want to know more about who Seb was and what happened to him/her. And lastly, what Tanner's (Emma's older brother) problem was with Brandon?

Overall I loved Duplicity! It was a book I was looking forward to read..that I didn't know about until it was offered to me! I've been meaning to read more books from male's perspectives and loved the whole idea of him being a hacker.

The ending sounded like there might be a second installment...if there is, I will be the first one in line to buy it!

TBR: March

I know it's already March 14th...but I still haven't gotten the chance to post my TBR for the rest of the month, so I'm doing it now!

There are only 17 or so more days in this month, so I decided to keep my TBR down to six books. I know that's a lot for a little over two weeks time...But I have spring break from 18 to the 29, meaning I won't being doing anything but reading.

With all this school work piling up these last few weeks and studying for finals, I'm ready to just spend a few days lounging around my house reading some good books! I don't plan on doing anything else. Except eat, shower and go to work. But I'm not going on any trips. I'm not doing anything major. Being at home, and enjoying a few books sounds like the perfect spring break to me!

Here are 5 out of the 6 books I plan to read for the rest of this month!

Duplicity

Duplicity, by N.K. Traver.

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2)Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3)Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5)

Cinder, by Marissa Meyer.
Scarlet, by Marissa Meyer.
Cress, by Marissa Meyer.
Fairest, by Marissa Meyer.

The 6th and final book I plan on reading this month is actually a review book that I'm still waiting to receive in the mail. And that is...

Twist (Loop, #2)

Twist, by Karen Akins.

So those are the 6 books I hope to start and finish this month. I'm excited to see how Duplicity ends. I'm excited to see what everyone's been raving about when it comes to Cinder, Scarlet, Cress and Fairest! And I'm dying to see what happens in the second installment, Twist!

What books are you reading this month? Leave the link to your TBR in the comments!

That Moment When Your Book Shelves Take Over Your Room...

You know you have a REAL problem when your books aren't contained in your TWO MASSIVE bookshelves, but are starting to trickle into your chair, onto your windowsill and bedside tables, until you find yourself literally sleeping in between stacks of books....

Sounds like a good problem to have...but I'm facing the facts, and deciding that its time for a change.

I've talked about minimizing the amount of books I keep and have been thinking about it for a while now. What drove this massive book buying, was finding all of these amazing used book stores around me, having a little bit of spending money from my job, and always getting books for an AWESOME deal.

So slimming down my bookshelves isn't a whole new idea that I just came up with, but is something that I've been considering for a little while now. This doesn't mean I will be reading any less, if anything I'll be reading more, because I won't have that constant pressure of having SO MANY unread books in my shelves, knowing they need to be read.

Instead of buying a crap ton of books, I'll just be buying when I don't have any to read. Obviously I'll still be accepting reviews books, and those will be on the top of my TBR, but when it comes to buying books, I'll try to do that only when I don't have any or only a very small number.

How am I going to accomplish getting my well over 150 TBR list down? I don't exactly know. I haven't really thought too much about it. I know people on blogger and youtube have done it, so why can't I? Right?

Initially I won't be buying anymore books. I just got back from Half Price and received my last order from Book Outlet just last week. I got rid of the urge of buying books, now it's finally time to start reading them, and getting rid of them.

Once I've started knocking some books off of my TBR, I will be purchasing a handful every once in a while, just to complete series that I've started. I'll read the entire series, and then get rid of those as well. I tend to read one book in a series, drop the series, and come back to it months later. It's one of my biggest problems, so I plan to just marathon any series from now on, unless books haven't released yet.

Besides that, I will start reading a lot of the stand alone novels that I've been collecting. I tend to read a lot of series, duologies and trilogies, but just never get around to reading stand alones...

Other than that I haven't really put much thought into how I plan on going about this crazy adventure. It sounds easy right? Just stop buying books and read the ones you have...but trust me, it is SO much harder than that!

Have any of you dealt with this kind of problem? Did you resolve it? How?

February Giveaway Winner!

(Its 9 days into March...which only means I'm 9 days late in posting the winner for February's giveaway...)

Last month I gave away BOTH of my copies of Anna Dressed in Blood and Girl of Nightmares, by Kendare Blake. Absolutely loved these two stories, but I know I won't be reading them again any time soon...so what better way to get rid of them, than share them with my blogging friends?

Because these books are a duology, I decided to give them to one lucky winner...because how dumb would it be to just get the second book and not the first as well?

And BEFORE I announce the winner, I just want to warn you that if you didn't win this giveaway, don't be bummed out or disappointed; I'm posting my March giveaway tomorrow...and I'm thinking about having three or four winners...how does that sound ladies and gentlemen?

Without further-a-do!! Drum roll please....

The winner of Anna Dressed in Blood AND Girl of Nightmare is....

Michelle Ann @ Book Briefs!!!

I already sent an email to winner letting them know that they won, and am just waiting to hear back from them soon!

Again, no worries if you didn't win this time, because next month's giveaway is going to be explosive!

Monthly Review: February

Welcome to Turning Pages!

We're already 9 days into March and I have barely posted! As I was logging into blogger and my email today, I was covering my eyes and hoping I haven't missed anything important....I know some of you must have felt this way sometimes, DON'T DENY IT!

February was a pretty good month for me. I received some interesting books in the mail to read and review, I even made my last big purchase on Book Outlet, I posted often considering all that I had to do for the month, and overall, I felt more relaxed and not constantly worried!

I even recorded three or four videos, but just never got around to editing or publishing them; I hope to do a lot more of that this month. So you can look forward to a trip to my local Half Price Books, my TBR list, a book haul, and a few other things! HOW EXCITING?!

So here's what I was up to in February...

Book Reviews:

Pawn (The Blackcoat Rebellion, #1)PanicDreamfireA Good Marriage

Discussions:

And a few other minor things.

When it comes to my TBR for February, I did horribly. I had a total of 10 books on my TBR list, and only read 3 of them....but on the other hand I did read 3 more books...but those weren't originally planned out. It's just impossible to include any review books in the TBR, because I decided on those books at the beginning of the month, and I usually don't know about the review books until a few days before the book is released...its a struggle.

Of course March is a new month, and I'm excited to jump back onto this thing. I have spring break coming up, which last about two weeks and I'm not taking such a large load of classes at the university, so I shouldn't be as busy this Spring quarter! All good news!

I'm excited to get started, to grab a book and read. To get my writing juices flowing, and to chit chat with you guys about we're reading! I'm excited for March, how about you guys?!
