WWW Wednesday!

Welcome to Turning Pages!

Before I get started on this week's "WWW Wednesday", I just want to ask what you all think of the changes I made to the blog!! It's not much, I know, but I went from two side bars to one (because I felt like the actual posts needed more room), I changed all fonts, the blog title, and cleared out the one side bar I have left. Please comment down below with your thoughts and any helpful suggestions or tips! Thank you!

What am I currently reading?
Flawless (Pretty Little Liars Series #2)
Currently you'll catch me reading the second book in the Pretty Little Liars series! Why Lisa, you already read that series? Well actually I only read up to the seventh book (I think there's a total of twelve now, or so?) and it's been a year. Since I never wrote official reviews on Turning Pages, not only did I think it would be a good idea to re-read the series so I could be caught up, but I would also be able to write reviews on each single book, than just one big generic series review.

What did I just finish reading?
Crave
Crave, by Melissa Darnell! At first glance this book is pretty big! I think it has around 450 pages, which is a lot for me in the summer. I usually don't mind reading any type of book during my two and a half months of summer break, but I actually prefer shorter books. I'm always out and about during this seasons, and shorter books are just easier to finish.

But I loved Crave! If you want to see what my thoughts are, check out my review!

What do I plan on reading next?
Perfect (Pretty Little Liars Series #3)Uncommon Criminals (Heist Society Series #2)
If you take a look at my left sidebar, you'll see my monthly TBR list. I might not go down the list in order, but I do tend to stick to the list! I think the next book I'll be enjoying will be either the third book in the Pretty Little Liar series, Perfect, or Uncommon Criminals, by Ally Carter!

Waiting On Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday! And welcome to Turning Pages!

The book I can't wait to see hit the shelves is...

Summary:

Goodreads & Barnes and Noble.
"Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail. For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences…."

First & Last Line:
"The last day I was fully human started off like any other April Monday in East Texas."
"Until then, I would just have to hold on to every last second we had together and pray that it would be enough."

Cover:

Writing book reviews, I love reviewing covers and their comparison to the story, as well. But sadly, I don't have very much to say about this cover..at all. The story inside is filled with forbidden love, romance, secrecy, and action (all great elements to create an eye catching cover). But instead it doesn't represent those nor any other parts of the story. The cover is generic and could be used for any ol' paranormal YA novel. The cover for Crave doesn't give the story any justice!

Story Line:

Every high school has that group of kids that not only think they run the school, but do. Their parents, usually on the wealthy side, not only allow those kids to have the newest things, but also control outside of school. At Savannah's school, these kids are known as part of the Clann; the town's original founders.

The Clann kids have been making Savannah's life hell after being shunned one day, back in the fourth grade. Not only losing her two bestfriends, but the boy she married at recess in grade school, Tristan (the next in line to become Clann leader). Savannah's been dealing with the bullying and harassment everyday since.

Rumors have always been flying around, that the Clann has magical powers, confirmed by Savannah's mom and grandmother who are also powerful witches (they were once part of the Clann, before being kicked out). Savannah learns that the past week she wasn't on bed rest because of a seasonal flu, but instead she was in the process of changing...into a vampire. While her mother, and nanna are powerful witches, her father on the other hand is a vampire.

Witches and Vampires (who are said not to be able to reproduce anyways) aren't allow to be together, which is all part of the agreement their forefathers had, trying to prevent any wars from breaking out. Being the reason why Savannah's family isn't part of the Clann anymore.

Savannah is told not to make any associations with any of the Clann members, especially Tristan. But like any teenager would, Savannah is having a hard time doing that. She finds herself attracted to him, and constantly thinking (and even sometimes dreaming) about him.Crave is filled with forbidden love, romance, mystery, action and so much more!

I love the characters, Savannah and Tristan, and especially Anne with her attitude! Nothing was overly dramatic, or overly "lovey dovey", like you would expect in such situations according to Twilight. The ending was the good kind of cliff hanger, which would keep the readers on the edge of their seats until the second book hit the shelves.

I love Crave and can't wait to continue reading the series!

Cover Comparison: Sarah Dessen Style!

Welcome to Turning Pages!

I don't frequently post cover comparisons, but I do enjoy doing them, and hearing what you, as booklovers and readers, have to say about the changes.

A little over a week ago, I was wondering the aisles of my local Barnes and Nobles, of course with my Starbucks coffee in hand, skimming books, looking at pretty covers, and just seeing what was new. Until my eye caught a glance at the Sarah Dessen books, and I choked on the signature green straw of my Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha, I realized every single book had a new cover!

Here are some comparisons!

Book Review: The Iron Daughter

The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey Series #2)Title: The Iron Daughter.
Author: Julie Kagawa.
Format: Paperback.
Pages: 304.
Series: Yes, Iron Fey #2.
Source: Purchased.
Publisher: Harlequin.
Published Date: 8/1/2010.
Links:
Goodreads.
Barnes and Noble.
Summary:

Goodreads & Barnes and Noble
"Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart."

First & Last Line:
"The Iron King stood before me, magnificent in his beauty, silver hair whipping about like an unruly waterfall."
"'Then I'm never coming back,' I said softly, and went through the arch, leaving Faery behind me forever."

Cover:

Each and every book in the Iron Fey series has a gorgeous cover, they each match perfectly and look astonishing while sitting on my shelf! I adore the cover of The Iron Daughter, it's my favorite! Not only is purple my color, but I love the detail put, not only on the cover, but at the beginning of each chapter as well. Looking close at the swirls, they seem to be vines growing with thorns, and little butterflies swarming around them.

My Thoughts:

The Iron Daughter is the second installment in the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa, the first being The Iron King. I don't want to give away too much of the first book (or this one as a matter of fact either), but I'll try my best to summarize without giving the entire plot away.

Meghan Chase is a regular girl, going to school like the most of us do. Until one day her little brother is kidnapped, and replaced with a out of this world creature. So Meghan decides it's her duty to go to this other world, and get her brother back, along with the help of her best friend (who she learns isn't who she always thought he was!).

Going to this other world, Meghan meets a lot of strange people (and animals/creatures) she never knew existed. From here on out her life does a total 360 and nothing is the same anymore. Meghan questions everything and everyone she's ever known.

Not being able to return to earth, Meghan has to up hold her part of her deal to Ash (the ice prince, who she begged for help, offering him anything just to get her little brother back).

In the second book the sceptor of the seasons is stolen by the new Iron King. Not knowing what to do Meghan tries to explain to the Queen of Ice, Mab that it wasn't Summer that stole it. Meghan, Puck, and even Ash (after many difficulties) leave Feary and go to Earth looking for the stolen sceptor...hopefully in time, before war breaks out between the two seasons..will they get there in time?

Going into The Iron Daughter, I didn't have many expectactions. It was just another book that needed to get read. Since I didn't like nor enjoy the first book very much, I went into the second with a bad taste in my mouth. I just had a hard time getting through every chapter, and struggled to get myself to pick up the book at all.

BUUUUT! Unlike The Iron King, The Iron Daughter hit it out of the park! I enjoyed the character development, especially between Ash and Meghan, and I couldn't get enough of the ending (I swear I read the last chapter four times). Looking back at the beginning, and the way Julie Kagawa explained what could happen if Summer and Winter ever fell in love with one another, the ending was perfect and couldn't have been any better.

If you didn't like the first book, I would recommend giving the second one a chance, I'm glad I did!
