Blogger of the Week!

Welcome to Turning Pages!

And to another "Blogger of the Week"! This meme, is hosting here at Turning Pages, every Monday. If you're a book blogger, doesn't matter how new or old, doesn't matter how many followers you have, and you would like to be featured here at my blog, please check out my "Blogger of the Week" Tab above!

This week's featured blogger is Debz @Debs Bookshelf!

1. Debz, can you tell us a little about yourself, and your blog, Debz Bookshelf? How did you come up with the name? Does it have a special meaning?

I'm a random teenager with curly hair who reads way too much! If you've ever stumbled across my blog, you'll know that I LOVE fairy tales more than any healthy person should. My blog was originally called Darling Deb's Bookshelf, but then I decided to cut off the darling because at the time it sounded childish, and I decided to just make it Debz because that had been my nickname everywhere, and who cared if it wasn't grammatically correct? It's my bookshelf (although at the time I owned maybe 20 books--not nearly enough to fill a bookshelf!)

2. If you could change one thing about your blog, what would that thing be?

Maybe not about my blog, but about the blogging experience in general--I need to reach out to people more. I don't comment a whole lot, or chat on twitter much, and I very rarely get in touch with publishers.

(I didn't comment a whole lot either, but I make it a priority to comment on at least ten blogs a day. Which may seem like a lot, but it's really not, before I even know it I've commented on 15 or even 20.)

3.What are your goals for blogging?

Reach out and read more! As I stated above, I don't "get out" much. but I'd like to change that. And I really need to catch up on my reading! According to Goodreads, I'm about 8 books behind, which isn't exactly the best place to be.

(I've started to make a monthly TBR pile, and it's really helping me keep on track with what books I need to read that month, instead of me just grabbing whatever book I want to read off my shelf.)

4. What got you into blogging about books? Have you always enjoyed reading?

It was kind of an accident how I got into book blogging. I'd been running a personal blog for a couple months, and then I realized I was really only blogging about books, so I transfered all my bookish posts to a new blog, and just kept going! And I have always enjoyed reading. Gail Carson Levine is a childhood favorite! Once I started blogging, I realized how many more books I was capable of reading. With a way of keeping track of what I read, and all the awesome follower love keeping me motivated, I went from reading 20 books a year to 80!

5. What do you enjoy doing besides reading and blogging?

Singing, watching Disney movies, and baking goodies! (I've become very skilled at doing all 3 simultaneously)

6. What do you indulge in while reading a good book?

Whatever goody I've made--be it cookies, brownies, or cheesecake (yum!) Occasionally I can even get away with taking a piece up to my room so I can eat and read in silence.

(In the winter, I love snuggling up with a some warm coffee, or hot chocolate. But in the summer, I like being out and love lemonade on the side!)

7. Favorite fictional crush?

Probably Finn from the Books of Bayern because he's such a sweet, strong, sensitive guy!

Thank you so much for stopping by Debz, and for answering all of these questions! P.S. now I'm cravin cheesecake!

Interesting in answering a few questions yourself, and having them posted here at Turning Pages, make sure to check out and read more about Blogger of the Week, HERE.

Book Review: Revived

RevivedTitle: Revived.
Author: Cat Patrick.
Format: Hardback.
Pages: 352.
Series: No.
Source: Hachette Book Group.
Publisher: Little Brown.
Published Date: 5/1/2012.
Links:
Goodreads
Barnes and Noble
Summary:

"As a little girl, Daisy Appleby was killed in a school bus crash. Moments after the accident, she was brought back to life. A secret government agency has developed a drug called Revive that can bring people back from the dead, and Daisy Appleby, a test subject, has been Revived five times in fifteen years. Daisy takes extraordinary risks, knowing that she can beat death, but each new death also means a new name, a new city, and a new life. When she meets Matt McKean, Daisy begins to question the moral implications of Revive, and as she discovers the agency's true goals, she realizes she's at the center of something much larger — and more sinister — than she ever imagined."

First and Last Line:

"I'm flattened and thrashing on the sun-warmed track next to the football field, lying on what looks like asphalt but what I realize now that I'm down here is actually fake spongy stuff."
"But also, I'll move on."

Cover:

The cover of Revived looks mysterious, enticing, and it makes you want to pick up the book and see what it's all about. I really like the shade of green, and the way it turns to black towards the bottom of the cover, in a tissue paper like texture.

My Thoughts:

Not once, not twice, but actually five is the number of times Daisy "Appleby" has died. The first was in a car crash, along with twenty other kids and one adult on a school bus, and the last was having an allergic reaction to a bee sting.

Revive is a drug, when given to someone right after passing away, it brings them back to life. But Revive doesn't always work, for instance on people who haven't been healthy before they died, like cancer, for example. The person has to die suddenly in order for the drug to take affect. This drug is what brought Daisy and a few others from the bus crash back to life.

This drug could save hundreds of people, reviving them, giving them a second, third, or even fourth chance to live their lives to the fullest. But not yet, anyways, because no one, expect the FBI (who is running the program), the testers, and the test subjects are the only ones who even know it exists! Well, for now...

If Revive were to ever be exposed on a whim, it could start a riot! People would be willing to do anything to save their loved one, and bring them back.

Every time Daisy dies, her two adoptive guardians (who are testers in the Revive program) pack up, move, and change their last name, so no one would ever expect anything. After her last death (the bee sting), Daisy moves to a new town, where she meets her new (and first best friend, who isn't also a test subject), and her brother Matt.

Daisy becomes to close to the both of them, Audrey as her best friend, and Matt as someone special (a.k.a her boyfriend). When she finds out that Audrey isn't as healthy as she seems, Daisy tries to do, what months ago seemed unbelievable, dangerous and impossible!

Blogger of the Week!

Welcome to Turning Pages!

And to another "Blogger of the Week"!

*If you are book blogger, doesn't matter how new or old, and want to participate in Blogger of the Week, either send me an email (googirl94@gmail.com) letting me know, or click above on the "Blogger of the Week" tab! There you can read more about the meme!*

This week's blogger of the week is....

1. Jenny, can you tell us a little about yourself, and your blog, Into the Morning Reads? How did you come up with the name? Does it have a special meaning?

Well, I’m one of those people who has been reading ever since I could sound out the word “cat” & haven’t yet been able to quite my book addiction (not that I want to!) since. My blog name originated with a song that I loved years ago about hanging out with your highschool love “into the morning until the sun comes up & ruins it all.” That’s how I feel about books sometimes so it was easy to transfer into my blog name!

(I used to hate reading so much! When I was about half way through middle school, I started reading a book here and there. Now I can't go anywhere without one!)

2. If you could change one thing about your blog, what would that thing be?

That’s hard because it’s been going through transitions probably from the very beginning. I’m never quite happy & I’m ALWAYS changing something new so I could say one thing at any given moment. Um, maybe I’d invent a cute new rating system!

3. What are your goals for blogging?

Basically I have 2 main goals. The first is to entertain & inform my readers (mainly entertain because I just love getting people laughing & thinking). The second is to enjoy having this outlet to write because that is my secondary addiction!

4. Do you review ebooks, or self-published books?

I do! In fact, if you peruse my blog you’ll notice that I have a huge heart for self-published & indie authors. Some of my most favorite books in recent years have been written by authors who have either not gotten a glance by big-pub or have decided they want way more control over how & what they publish. I love mining for the jewels & discovering new friends (indie authors are so accessible & so nice!) along the way!

5. What's the most recent book you've read and tell us about in exactly five words.

Well, it wasn’t YA, but the last thing I read was The Camel Club by David Balducci. Only 5 words?? Oh boy, here goes: Hilarious Quartet Save Kidnapped President. Whew.

6. Your all time favorite book?

You can’t make me pick. I refuse! No, if I have to be very honest, my all time favorite book is (actually a trilogy) called The Forbidden Game which was written by LJ Smith (author of The Vampire Diaries & The Secret Circle) way back in the 90s. It got me through some tough summers & I usually re-read it every year. Wow I really just dated myself, didn’t I? Oh well, I just love the games the characters have to play against the gorgeous, other-worldly Shadow Man Julian. I recommend it to everyone who loves YA Paranormal Romance.

(I've heard the first book in the Vampire Diaries, and loved it! I can't wait to pick up the rest of the series, and finish them off.)

7. If you could take out any author to lunch, who would you take and to where?

Oh my gosh, if you could make that one come true I would be your best friend for life. I would take Rusty Fischer to lunch if I could. He has to be one of the funniest people I know & his writing is really kick-butt. Where would we go? I’d definitely Google zombie flash mob venues & take him somewhere nearby!

Thank you so much for having me! I really enjoyed answering the questions & hope you enjoy reading the answers!

Thank you for stopping by, and answering all of our questions!

It's Monday, What Am I Reading?

Welcome to Turning Pages!

Today I've been pretty busy playing catch up; updating my reviews, my pages, and my Goodreads account. Which is the reason why I'm posting this late Monday night, but better late than never, right?

The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey Series #2)The Iron Daughter, by Julie Kagawa.

"Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart."

Have you read The Iron Daughter, or any part of the Iron Fey series? Let me know what you think! I'm really loving The Iron Daughter so far!:D

Cover Comparison!

Welcome to Turning Pages!

While doing my weekly "What's Coming This Week", I noticed the cover of this new release and the similarities it had with another book I already owned! So I decided to do a quick cover comparison, and wanted to ask, which cover you like better, and how would you feel as a author if the picture of your book cover was used, again on another book?

Summary:
Barnes and Noble
"Gossip thrives amid the Mercedes-Benzes, mega mansions, and perfectly manicured hedges in the exclusive town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania. Behind their big Gucci sunglasses, beneath their perfectly pressed Polos, everyone has something to hide, especially high school juniors Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna. Spencer covets her sister's gorgeous new boyfriend. Aria is having an affair with her English teacher. Emily is infatuated with the new girl at school. And Hanna is using some ugly tricks to stay beautiful. Deeper and darker still is a horrible secret the girls have shared since sixth grade -- a secret they thought was safe forever. Then the girls start receiving threatening messages signed by someone named "A." Could "A" be Alison, the ultra-popular girl who disappeared three years earlier? Alison was their best friend. She knew everything about them. But if Alison isn't "A," who is? And how could anyone else know so much about the bad girls they were and the bad girls they've become? Suddenly, their secrets -- the big ones, the little ones, even the long-buried ones -- no longer seem so secret. Suddenly, nothing is safe in Rosewood."
Goodreads
"Three years ago, Alison disappeared after a slumber party, not to be seen since. Her friends at the elite Pennsylvania school mourned her, but they also breathed secret sighs of relief. Each of them guarded a secret that only Alison had known. Now they have other dirty little secrets, secrets that could sink them in their gossip-hungry world. When each of them begins receiving anonymous emails and text messages, panic sets in. Are they being betrayed by some one in their circle? Worse yet: Is Alison back? A strong launch for a suspenseful series."

First Line:
"'Someone finally bought the DiLaurentises' old house,' Emily Fields's mother said."

Last Line:
"I'm still here, bitches. And I know everything. -A."

Cover:

I absolutely love the cover of every single book in this series; especially with all the differently colored backgrounds! They look GREAT together, as a series, sitting on my shelf, they look bright and c.o.l.o.r.f.u.l. (eye-catchers!! Yoo-hoo!)

My Thoughts:

Being my second time around reading the beginning of this (12 book, I think?) series, I loved it and enjoyed it just as much, if not more than the first time around! I haven't watched too much of the television series, (which is REALLY hard to resist!) besides the first three episodes, so it hasn't really spoiled anything for me.

*Starts humming* Got a secret, can you keep it, swear this one you'll save, better lock it in your pocket, taking this one to the grave!

Back in the summer, after their seventh grade year, these four girls lost one of their best friends; Alison DiLaurentis. Three years later, Emily (who now swims on their high school swim team, has a boyfriend named, Ben), Aria (who moved back from Iceland, after moving there during eighth grade), Hanna (who was over weight, but totally revamped herself and her new best friend, Mona) and Spencer (who still lives in her older sister, Melissa's shadow) still don't know what happened to their friend and the girls' once close relationships slowly faded over the years.

But these four girls aren't just any teenage girls, yes, they all dealt with a great loss, but besides the huge secret they all have in common, the girls each have their own...or two!

*MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT!! BEWARE!*

Emily kissed Ali, confessing her love for her. But now is having feelings for the new girl, Maya. Spencer who messed with Melissa's old boyfriend, Ian, and is now repeating history with Melissa's current boyfriend. Aria caught her dad kissing one of his college students, but is now crushing on her own teacher. And Hanna would make herself throw up just to get skinny, is now stealing from stores in the mall.

Not wanting these secrets (new and old) to get out, the four girls get paranoid when they each start to receive emails, text messages, or even notes from this mysterious "A" person, who is constantly taunting and threatening to bring out the truth!

What will the girls do? What happened to Alison? Who is A? Is Alison back? So MANY questions!?!

I honestly love this series, and can't wait to continue reading! If you're starting to run out of easy summer reads, these books fit the criteria!

Blogger of the Week!

Welcome to Turning Pages!

It's Monday, meaning it's time for another "Blogger of the Week"! This week's blogger, is Ishita from The Reading Fish; check out her blog, she makes her own layouts, banners, and buttons!

(*If your a blogger, new or old, as long as your a book blogger, and would like to have yourself, and your blog featured here at Turning Pages, just click the tab above, called "Blogger of the Week" for more information!*)

1. Ishita, can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog, The Reading Fish? How did you come up with the name? Does it have a special meaning?

Hmm, me? Well I am your Indian nerd, who has the craziest fashion sense. I'm a dancer, reader (Duhh), chocoholic, and aspiring cardiac surgeon. I have been in love with reading since the age of 2! compared to most readers I feel like I started my blog, The Reading Fish, quite late. I started it my sophomore year (I'm almost a year old!) after finding out about book blogs through Goodreads. I was so excited to find a place where I can vent my ideas on books to people who actually cared. "The Reading Fish" is basically me in different words. You are probably wondering Huh?! Basically ever since the second grade my two best friends have always called me Fishy. This was because it ryhmed with my name Ishi (my nickname) oh and also because I have A LOT of pet fishes! And the "Reading" is pretty obvious ;D

2. If you could change one thing about your blog, what would that thing be?

My sidebars! I still feel they are too cluttered even though I have cleaned them up! I might switch it to one sidebar soon, so i have more posting area :D

(I'm on the other side of the rope, I feel like I don't have very much on my sidebar, and really should add more!)

3. What are your goals for blogging?

A few of my goals are:
-Create a schedule
-Review more
-Have more Interviews (I love doing them!)
-Do discussion posts

4. What's the most recent book you've read and tell us about it in exactly five words.

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Fantastic. Amazing. Hot Sexy Guys. ;D

5. What do you enjoy doing besides reading and blogging?

Besides blogging and reading. I love to volunteer. I volunteer 9 hours as a tutor, as well as volunteer through school clubs. I love dancing. I have been dancing since the age of 3 :D. I love hanging out with family and friends, blog/web design, cooking/baking, sleeping and swimming.

6. Your all time favorite book?

Aghhhh such a hard one!! I don't have one favorite. I have like 100. But at the moment my top 3 have to be The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, Divergent, and Amy and Roger's Epic Detour will have to be at the top of my list right now.

(I have yet to read all three of those! I really should get on that.)

7. Do you review ebooks, or self-published books?

I do! I love indies as much as I love mainstream published books! And I recently started accepting e-books since I just got my Kinde! :D

8. Favorite fictional crush?

If I actually told you my whole list, it would have over 400 guys! I am totally head over heels for Noah Shaw  from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and Daemon from Obsidean. I ALWAYS fall for the badass. The emotional bad boy, who sometimes ends up being evil. I have no idea why, but I don't like the nice guys ;D....Oh it might be the fact that the bad boys Always have the better dialogue.

(Ohhh! I love me some bad boys too! Ha, they just seem more mysterious and interesting.)

Thank you so much Ishita for stopping by, and taking the time to answer a few of our questions!!

"This dark and thrilling adventure, with an unforgettable heroine, will captivate fans of steampunk, fantasy, and romance. On her 18th birthday, Lena Mattacascar decides to search for her father, who disappeared into the northern wilderness of Scree when Lena was young. Scree is inhabited by Peculiars, people whose unusual characteristics make them unacceptable to modern society. Lena wonders if her father is the source of her own extraordinary characteristics and if she, too, is Peculiar. On the train she meets a young librarian, Jimson Quiggley, who is traveling to a town on the edge of Scree to work in the home and library of the inventor Mr. Beasley. The train is stopped by men being chased by the handsome young marshal Thomas Saltre. When Saltre learns who Lena’s father is, he convinces her to spy on Mr. Beasley and the strange folk who disappear into his home, Zephyr House. A daring escape in an aerocopter leads Lena into the wilds of Scree to confront her deepest fears."

Sadly, I only have the ARC, meaning I don't have a copy of the final cover (that you see above). So if I judged the cover of The Peculiars by a 300 by 300 pixel image on my computer, I don't believe it would be fair, compared to actually holding a copy in my hands.

My Thoughts:

Before I start my review, I just want to say a quick thank you to Krista, over at Cubicle Blindness, for taking the time, and paying the shipping cost of sending me her extra copy of this book! I hope you check out her blog, Krista does amazing reviews, and insane book hauls; LOVE them!

The Peculiars are a group of strange deformed humans, that a lot of people don't believe exist anymore, or ever have, for that fact. Being charged as a Peculiar, means you are sent to Scree (the wilderness in the north) to work in the mines, never being able to own a mine, and working twelve hours a day; not ever seeing day light.

The main character, Lena, decides to set off a journey to Scree to find her father, after she received a letter and money from him on her eighteenth birthday. Throughout her adventure, Lean wonders and questions, if her deformities (extra knuckles in all of her fingers and toes) makes her like her father...like a Peculiar.

On her long train ride to Knoster, Lena meets a new friend, sharing the same train room, and even gets her bag, that contained the letter, a few important papers, and the money from her dad, stolen. After saying their goodbyes, the two friends later, bump into one another.  Jimson and Lena catch up; he now works as a librarian in a grand house owned by a doctor, named Beasley. Knowing about Lena and her background experience of library skills and book knowledge, Jimson suggest she should ask Mr. Beasley for a job as well!

Working together side by side, in Beasley's library, these two friends make a few discoveries, that change their minds and opinions on Mr. Beasley. Could Mr. Beasley be holding Peculiars hostage or is he actually helping them? What does the journey and all of the sketches inside of it mean? Could Lena be a Peculiar as well? Will she ever get to Scree and find her father?

This book did take me a while to get through, not because it was slow or boring, but because I started reading towards the end of school, and during finals, so I barely had any time to pick it up and read. But once school ended, and I had a lot of time to myself, I just easily breezed through, and loved it!

Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars Series #1)

With just a few pages left, I'm just finishing up Pretty Little Liars, the first book the series! Having already read it, over a year ago, I decided to re-read the first seven books in the series, finally review them and finish off the rest of the books!

Love the television series, but the books are EVEN better!

What did I just finish reading?

The Peculiars

The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry! It did take me a while to get through, due to school and a extremely busy schedule, but I do plan on posting my review today, so check that out!

What do I plan on reading next?

Flawless (Pretty Little Liars Series #2)Perfect (Pretty Little Liars Series #3)Revived

The second and third books in The Pretty Little Liars series, or maybe even Revived by Cat Patrick, I'm not very sure yet! But I'll keep you updated!
