Summary:
"Evie finally has the normal life she’s always longed for. But she’s shocked to discover that being ordinary can be...kind of boring. Just when Evie starts to long for her days at the International Paranormal Containment Agency, she’s given a chance to work for them again. Desperate for a break from all the normalcy, she agrees.
But as one disastrous mission leads to another, Evie starts to wonder if she made the right choice. And when Evie’s faerie ex-boyfriend Reth appears with devastating revelations about her past, she discovers that there’s a battle brewing between the faerie courts that could throw the whole supernatural world into chaos. The prize in question? Evie herself.
So much for normal."
My Thoughts:
Evie has spent days, months even years wondering what it would like to live a normal teenage life. What it would be like to attend high school, walk to her locker after each class, and go to prom at the end of the year. But now that she has the life she was always hoping for, living with her vampire friend, Arianna, and working at the diner, Evie has come to the realization that it isn't as fun as it seemed on Easton Heights; her favorite TV show. And with Lend off to college, Evie looks forward to the weekends, and to him coming home.
When Raquel randomly shows up to "visit" and asks Evie to rejoin IPCA (Internation Paranormal Containment Agency). Raquel even tells Evie that she doesn't have to take on any missions that she doesn't want to or doesn't feel comfortable doing, but IPCA needs her ability to see through Glamour. Evie doesn't know what to say, she promised Lend that she wouldn't accept the offer, and she also promised him, their future together at college. Not telling him, Evie accepts Raquel's offer.
Evie meets Raquel's newest intern, Jack, a human who has lived much of his live in the Faerie Realms and that can travel through through them without getting lost. While Jack is a pain and very annoying at first, Evie soon appreciates his friendship, and his willingness to ALWAYS have fun.
Things seem to be going much better for Evie, especially when Lend wants to make her BIGGEST dream come true, and take her to prom. But as we all know, nothing every goes that way we want it to, and Evie's dream is quickly diminished, when Reth pulls her out of the dancing crowd and informs her that the two Seelie Courts that created both Evie and her soul-sucking sister, are going to war.
Her world is crumbling all around her, Evie's relationship with Lend is on the line, she meets her father, who doesn't seem to even have noticed she was ever gone at all, her college plans aren't working out as she though they would, and now her IPCA life is coming back to haunt her.
My Final Verdict:
I have wanted to read this trilogy for quiet some time now; I jumped into it with no real idea of what would happen, besides what the synopsis said for Paranormalcy. I had no expectations, and the thing I looked forward to the most was that the main character was a human with paranormal powers! Finally! How many books have that? None.
While things didn't end the way I thought or assumed they would in Paranormalcy, I was still really interested and actually liked the story better than the way I figured it would play out. I was infatuated with Evie's job and the paranormals she was dealing with everyday, and the way she missed being "normal".
In the first book I adored Evie and Lend, and their relationship; I thought they were perfect for each, even with the vast amount of differences the two had. But I also liked that the romance aspect of Paranormalcy wasn't overshadowing everything else; I was wishing upon a star that this would continue through Supernaturally. It did. THANK GOODNESS.
Trust me, I love romance, and I love contemporary reads, but in this book I wasn't looking for too much of that. I was more focused on the action, the paranormal aspect and the entire thing Evie has going on. And I was glad to see that there attention of the book had the same focus as I did.
There were a few other main characters beside Evie and Lend, that I liked and those were Arianna (Evie's roommate/vampire friend), Lend's Dad, Reth and Jack. Jack definitely brought lightness and humor to the story when things were getting too serious. I felt like with all the darkness going on around Evie, she needed a friend like Jack who wasn't too serious and would much rather have fun.
Supernaturally opens the reader's eyes to Evie's past that we didn't get to witness in the first book. I LOVED it. Though we still haven't discovered WHO Evie is, but I'm pretty sure that'll come up in the final installment.
Overall Supernaturally was an amazing read, and a great sequel to Paranormalcy. While there was something going on at every moment, like in the first book, we aren't really sure as to what that "something" is. But we know that there's something lurking in the shadows, ready to jump at us at any time.
I wish I could tell you the one big twist that happened towards the end of the book, but I can't. There just aren't any words for me to describe it, without just shouting the entire thing right at you.
Supernaturally was a phenomenal read, and I'm eager to see what Kiersten White has in store for both Evie and myself in the third and final book!

1000th Post, and Making Youtube Vids? Whaaa?
My 1000th post, YES, you are reading it right now!
I've been looking forward to writing this post for a while now, because 1000 posts it's just plain old ridiculous! I can hardly believe it! *happy dances*
Okay, now that that's out of my system. Next topic!
Youtube and the idea of making videos has been on mind a lot recently, and actually for quite a while now. I enjoy watching book hauls and TBR lists, and I find them to be much more fun than just posting pictures on my blog. I've always been nervous about making videos, simply because I would have to show my face and the quality of my old camera was CRAP!
I've never really recorded, downloaded, edited, or posted a legit video on Youtube. For the same reason I didn't tell very many people about blogging and Turning Pages. (If you want to know why I kept blogging a secret from many of my friends and family, CLICK HERE).
But with finally exposing my blog to my boyfriend, and getting positive feedback from him, my family, and my good friend Audris at YA Bookmark, I decided to record my most recent book haul (with about forty or so books) and post it.
If you've seen it, I know, it ABSOLUTELY sucks, and I am SOOO boring! But it's my first video, what do you expect!?
Practice Makes Perfect...
I'll work on the lightening, on the edited, and all the other technicalities, over time. I'm sure I can find some tutorials online, through Google.
Wait, what other videos are you making, Lisa?
I plan to record both book hauls as well as TBR lists at the beginning of the month. While I do like the idea of making videos and getting the chance to talk to you face-to-face (my face-to-camera?) I would rather write my reviews.
I might be making different types of videos later down the road, but for now TBR lists and book hauls are enough. But if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!
I hope to become more comfortable to talking the camera, and let my personality shine through; instead of putting you to sleep!
Do you make Youtube videos? Leave your link below, I want to check out your channel!

It's Monday, What Am I Reading?
Title: Tiger's Destiny.
Author: Colleen Houck.
Summary:
"With three of the goddess Durga's quests behind them, only one prophecy now stands in the way of Kelsey, Ren, and Kishan breaking the tiger's curse. But the trio's greatest challenge awaits them: A life-endangering pursuit in search of Durga's final gift, the Rope of Fire, on the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal.
It's a race against time--and the evil sorcerer Lokesh--in this eagerly anticipated fourth volume in the bestselling Tiger's Curse series, which pits good against evil, tests the bonds of love and loyalty, and finally reveals the tigers' true destinies once and for all."
My Thoughts So Far:
I'm sadly only two chapters into this one! I finished the third book, Tiger's Voyage late last night, and haven't found much time today to read. This time Kelsey can't save her tigers, instead the two brothers need to rescue her and complete their mission.
I was a little annoyed in the third that Kelsey wasn't able to pick one of the two brother, but was always messing with both of their heads. I hope that she finally makes a decision in this final book, and sticks to it.
Have you read this series yet? What do you think?

Book Haul: Youtube Videos!
Welcome to Turning Pages, and to this MASSIVE book haul!
I've finally decided to make book hauls, and TBR lists at the beginning of every month, into Youtube videos, instead of just posting and listing the book titles and covers. I thought it would be much more fun doing it this way!
This is the first legitimate time trying to make a video, so if it sucks, or if I'm not funny, don't worry! Practice makes perfect!
Here it goes:

Book Review: Paranormalcy
Title: Paranormalcy
Author: Kiersten White
Series: Yes, #1.
Pages: 335.
Source: Purchased.
Publisher: Harperteen.
Published Date: 7/31/10.
Links:
Goodreads.
Barnes and Noble.
Summary:
"Evie's always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormal glamours.
But Evie's about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal."
My Thoughts:
Evie is only sixteen years old, works for IPCA (International Paranormal Containment Agency) hunting down and tagging paranormals, she's being stalked by the same faerie that broke her heart and she enjoys spending time with her best friend...that's a mermaid. Sounds pretty normal to me....I do that everyday.
Evie is the only human that can see through the paranormal's glamour, to the true monster inside. Whether its a vampire, which is actually a dying corpse (I'm guessing Bella doesn't have this power...), or any other creature that you can think of. Glamour is what allows a paranormal to go into public, and not be seen in their true form, by the humans surrounding them. She doesn't really remember her parents, or what happened to them, but after jumping from one foster home to the next, and then discovering her power, Evie was adopted into IPCA. But she does crave the "normal" things teenagers do, like going to school with friends, having a locker, and attending prom.
Evie has always done what her job, as well as Raquel (her boss/mom figure), asked of her; never questioning IPCA or what they were doing to these creatures. She's just always felt special and proud, for being the only human with this ability, and for being able to protect her own people. She even put up with (her ex-boyfriend?) Reth, who is a faerie, working for the IPCA and travels Evie through the faerie realms, to any where in the world to do tagging missions. Reth was her first love when Evie came to IPCA, but she learned quickly that faeries are selfish, and did anything to get what they wanted.
But soon Evie discovers that things around IPCA aren't exactly what they seem, and that the person who was the closest to her, Raquel, is hiding something about Evie's identity and who she is. And those doubts start when an invisible boy, who can shape shift, breaks into IPCA and digs around in Raquel's office. Even though the boy claims that he is breaking into IPCA for information but without any real idea of what he was doing, and without a plan to escape, Evie can't help to stare at him. Not only because he is incredibly cute, but also he's the first teenage boy she's seen in a very long time.
After going one another tagging mission, this time to stop a vampire or two, Evie is cornered into a room filled with them. Barely hurting one of them, Evie escapes with the help of her faerie. When she finally gets back to IPCA, she is informed that a large number of vampires were killed, but Evie escaped before she could truly hurt even one of them. Who did this and why?
When more and more paranormals are being killed, and Evie is having nightmares of this yellow-gold shadow, Evie can't help but wonder what is going on. Coming to the realization that Evie is no human at all, but instead a level eight paranormal (basically a unknown sort of paranormal), she can't help to wonder what else Raquel is keeping from her. Maybe the fact that she has a soul-sucker sister, that is killing off a huge percent of the paranormal population!!
AND that it's EVIE'S job to stop her!?!
Yeah...sounds about right.
Final Verdict:
I had no idea what I was getting myself into, when I started to read Paranormalcy. I hadn't read a review, so I jumped right in, with absolutely no expectations or ideas of what roller coaster I was strapping up for and about to ride.
Evie was a phenomenal main character! I loved that she was doing all this paranormal hunting, and taking down these massive monsters, but was a girl and had style at the same time. I liked that she was special and wanted to be normal, but liked being special...you know?! I mean who wouldn't want to have some sort of super power or ability! And how annoying is it, when characters just want to be "normal" and hide their skills?!
And how good does it feel to read a book, that has vampires in it, but the girl isn't falling in love with one, but instead is disgusted by them?? REALLY good! Instead she falls for an invisible boy, that's new! I mean, I still don't get how that works...but its so much better than Edward!
I really enjoyed that Paranormalcy included various paranormal creatures, including Trolls, Hags, and a few others that you don't read about in YA often. I felt that, that set Paranormalcy ahead of many other books, and made it stick out to me.
I absolutely adored the main character, and couldn't get enough of her and Lend together. The story never had a dull moment, and Evie was always under some stressful situation. There were a couple of good twists and a few interesting turns, that came out of nowhere...and that left my mouth hanging open wide. I loved the ending, and while it was satisfying, it did make me excited to start reading Supernaturally.
Not being able to refrain myself from reading it, I started Supernaturally, that same night!

It's A Secret...Well Not Anymore..
If you've been following Turning Pages for a while now, then you might know that this blog is turning three by the end of next month...YUP!
THREE! I know, I can't believe it either!
And within those three years, I've told very few people as to why I was spending all my money on books, and my time on the computer. Actually I only told both my parents and my brother (who've all probably told the rest of the world, because no one in my family can keep a secret), but only after Turning Pages was set up.
I didn't even tell my best friends, who also enjoy reading, just as much as I do. But why would I keep this a secret? Why wouldn't I share this with my friends or boyfriend? The people who mean the most to me, and the people whom I truly trust?
While that might seem like a tough question, it actually has a really simple answer; I don't want to be judged. I don't want my hobby and what I love to do to be scrutinized, by others. In a way I guess I wanted this to be my own little space to explore, and describe my feelings, when I first created Turning Pages!
But it's been three years (almost) and I feel like Turning Pages has become a bigger part of my life, than when I was just sixteen years old. It's taken up one of the four walls in my room, and quiet a bit of my time. With that I've recently felt the urge to finally stop keeping this bottled up inside, and let someone else know what I was doing in my free time; my boyfriend.
Before I go into telling you how I went about it, what I said, and what he did in reply, I should probably tell you a little bit about him.
He is much calmer than I am. And I think that's one of the biggest reasons why he deals with stressful situations much better than I do. (I freak out, cry a little, suck it up, and then deal with whatever's going on).
It's been a few weeks that I've been meaning to tell him, and just could never find a good time to bring it up...I mean I couldn't just blurt it out, right in the middle of a movie...until my mom asked me right IN FRONT of him, if I told him about the "secret" yet!
Did I already tell you, that no one in my family can keep a secret? So I had no other option, and what better time to tell him?
And while I was freaking out, shaking, nervous and little light headed, he was calm and even seemed kind of interested in the whole blogging thing. I told him how I started Turning Pages, what I was writing, and how some of it worked. He, himself, isn't a hardcore reader, but it feels good to know now that I can talk to him about books.
I'll be hearing "blog about it" and "the life of a blogger" for months to come, but I'm still really happy that I finally found the nerve to share this part of my life with him. I hope to do the same with one or two of my closest friends, because it feels really good to get this off my chest.
Do your family and friends know about your blog? How did you tell them? Have any advice?

It's Tuesday? What Am I Reading?
Welcome to Turning Pages!
Today's Tuesday, I know, but who's counting anyways, right?
Title: Dreamless.
Author: Josephine Angelini.
Summary:
"Can true love be forgotten?
As the only scion who can descend into the Underworld, Helen Hamilton has been given a nearly impossible task. By night she wanders through Hades, trying to stop the endless cycle of revenge that has cursed her family. By day she struggles to overcome the fatigue that is rapidly eroding her sanity. Without Lucas by her side, Helen is not sure she has the strength to go on.
Just as Helen is pushed to her breaking point, a mysterious new Scion comes to her rescue. Funny and brave, Orion shields her from the dangers of the Underworld. But time is running out. A ruthless foe plots against them, and the Furies' cry for blood is growing louder.
As the ancient Greek world collides with the mortal one, Helen's sheltered life on Nantucket descends into chaos. But the hardest task of all will be forgetting Lucas Delos."
My Thoughts So Far:
I absolutely adored Starcrossed, by Josephine Angelini, so I was dying to finally get my hands on this one, and to start reading. The first one left the reader off with such a dramatic and heartbreaking end, that I had no choice but to rush out pick up, not only the second book, but the third as well...can't let that happen again!
Helen is just starting to embrace her powers, and the extend of them. Instead of focusing on trying to blow up the world, she's attempting her best to refrain from doing that. Even if it means using up all of her energy, when most of it is already going to her trips down to the demon world.
In the first book, I couldn't get enough of Lucas and Helen together, so I'm excited to see how things work between the two in Dreamless, especially when there might just be another boy walking into Helen's picture!
Almost finished, excited to review!

Summary:
"Cath is a Simon Snow fan.
Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .
But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?
Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?"
My Thoughts:
Cath and Wren have been together their whole lives, mostly because they're sisters! And twins! Cath isn't really feeling the idea of going off to college far away from home, staying in a dorm there, and leaving behind her dad all alone. But Wren doesn't make her feel any better, when she says that she doesn't want to dorm together; claiming that neither of the two will get the FULL college experience.
Instead of sharing a dorm with her sister, Cath is sharing a room with a girl named Reagan...and half the time with Reagan's best friend/ex-boyfriend, Levi. Reagan isn't in her the room very often, but when she is usually Levi isn't too far behind.
Cath loves writing! (OMG we have so much in common, college freshman AND she loves writing?!) The last two years she's spent and dedicated her life to writing Simon Snow fanfiction. She writes a chapter every night, to feed her adoring fans' addiction.
With all the school work and writing she needs to get done, Cath doesn't leave her room very often; which she doesn't mind at all. She hates the awkwardness of meeting people for the first time, or going somewhere, where she's never been; not knowing how things work. Even when Reagan and Levi ask her to go out with them to parties or just to hangout, Cath always declines their offers, staying in the dorm room instead.
Cath has made one friend though, his name is Nick. She met him in her advanced writing class, and meets him at the library to work on their story together, sometimes until midnight! Besides Reagan, Levi and Nick, Cath hasn't talked to anyone else, not even her sister.
Wren didn't even go home to visit their dad when they were informed that he was in the hospital from over working himself. Cath called Wren pleading her to come home with her, but she didn't and only tried reassuring Cath that he would be okay.
Wren spends most of her time hanging out with her roomate, Courtney; usually partying and/or drinking. So when Cath receives a text message saying SOS with the bar she's at, she askes Levi for a ride, and heads there to make sure her sister is save. Turns out that Wren wasn't trying to reach Cath, but Courtney instead, and that her sister is piss drunk.
The twins have never been close to their mother, after she just up and left one day when they were about eight years old. But when Cath receives a message from her, telling her that Wren is in the hospital, Cath ignores all the anger she has towards her mother, and gets there as soon as possible for Wren.
First her dad in the hospital, then Wren and a phone call from her mom, who disappeared so many years ago. Things seem to be falling about all around Cath, and she's trying to juggle too much all at once. Reagan isn't as scary or different from Cath as she once thought. Nick isn't how Cath assumed he was. Wren has completely changed since going to college and Levi seems to (strangely) be the only person who is making her feel better.
My Verdict:
Fangirl honestly rocked my world. I don't know if it was because I could relate to Cath so much, or what, but I loved it. Cath was down to earth, had similar interests and fears as I do, and I enjoyed watching her come out of her shell.
Wren and Nick added the crazy level and twist to the story, that I felt was needed for this book to be as amazing as it is. I thought Wren became a bit selfish and mean for just leaving her sister (and her dad) hanging like that. And I had a feeling about Nick, but I never ACTUALLY thought he would go through with what he did...how rude!

Even as Cath's world seemed to be crumble down around her, and her fanfiction writing seemed to be coming to an end, the ending of the story was happy...and I was happy about that. I liked that everything worked out for Cath, Wren, her friends and her dad.
But there was one thing that wasn't cleared up, and that was Cath and Wren's mom. The reader is never truly informed as to why she left when they were so young, or what happened after Cath ran to hospital for Wren. So I was a little bit disappointed about that, but overall Fangirl was BOMB!
