Book Review #17: Need
Title: Need
Author: Carrie Jones
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Publish Date: April 1, 2009
Summary:
"Zara collects phobias the way other high school girls collect lipsticks. Little wonder, since life’s been pretty rough so far. Her father left, her stepfather just died, and her mother’s pretty much checked out. Now Zara’s living with her grandmother in sleepy, cold Maine so that she stays “safe.” Zara doesn’t think she’s in danger; she thinks her mother can’t deal.
Wrong. Turns out that guy she sees everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn’t a figment of her imagination. He’s a pixie—and not the cute, lovable kind with wings. He’s the kind who has dreadful, uncontrollable needs. And he’s trailing Zara.
With suspense, romance, and paranormal themes, this exciting breakout novel has all the elements to keep teens rapidly turning the pages."
Cover Opinion: 3/5
The golden-shiny-glittery lips are a real eye catcher! But I feel like they could of made a lot cool-er covers for a book called Need!
Characters-
Favorite:
Has to be Devyn, why? Instead of shifting in a boring old werewolf, he shifts into a eagle, how totally cool is that? Finally someone is switching it up! Even though Zara's grandma turns into a tiger, which is also pretty awesome. But the story takes place in a small town in Maine, so I felt like the tiger didn't really fit into the setting.
Least Favorite:
Probably has to be Ian, another boy from school that Zara meet. *SPOILER WARNING* Before I even knew he was a pixie, he just seemed like a jerk, always trying to get in between Nick (werewolf) and Zara. When he tried to kidnap Zara, I just wanted to throw the book against the wall, why wouldn't he just leave her alone? But you'll have to read the book to find that out(;
Storyline: 4/5
When Zara's dad (step dad) passes away from a heart attack, her mother is very worried about her, Worried that she's in depression and that she might try to take her own life. Zara's mom decides on sending her to her grandma's, Betty, in a small town in Maine.
Not only does Zara feel the cold, but also that strange feeling when someones following and watching you. Starting a new school is never easy for anyone, but Zara does quickly make friend with Issie (who loves bunnies) and Devyn (who is a wheelchair, because he was shoot in a "hunting accident").
When she tells her friends about how she always notices this man, Issie's seen it first hand, Devyn suggests that it could be pixies. As the group heads to the library, they notice clues Zara's dad has left behind, her life would never be the same.
Ending Opinion: 5/5
Really made you want to get out of your fuzzy sleepers, run to either Barnes and Nobles or the library to keep up the rest of the series!:D
