In My Mailbox #13

At the beginning of this week, I wasn't really expecting any books, since I'm playing a huge game of catch up with all of the other books I haven't read yet. When I found out there was a book signing taking place close to home at the end of this month, I wanted to go out and get some, so I could get them signed(:

I only purchased two, I hope to have more by the book signing!

So here it goes...

You Wish, by Mandy Hubbard.

"Kayla McHenry's sweet sixteen sucks! Her dad left, her grades dropped, and her BFF is dating the boy Kayla's secretly loved for years. Blowing out her candles, Kayla thinks: I wish my birthday wishes actually came true. Because they never freakin' do.
Kayla wakes the next day to a life-sized, bright pink My Little Pony outside her window. Then a year's supply of gumballs arrives. A boy named Ken with a disturbing resemblance to the doll of the same name stalks her. As the ghosts of Kayla's wishes-past appear, they take her on a wild ride . . . but they MUST STOP. Because when she was fifteen? She wished Ben Mackenzie would kiss her. And Ben is her best friend's boyfriend."

Chasing Brooklyn, by Lisa Schroeder.

"Restless souls and empty hearts
Brooklyn can't sleep. Her boyfriend, Lucca, died only a year ago, and now her friend Gabe has just died of an overdose. Every time she closes her eyes, Gabe's ghost is there waiting for her. She has no idea what he wants or why it isn't Lucca visiting her dreams.
Nico can't stop. He's always running, trying to escape the pain of losing his brother, Lucca. But when Lucca's ghost begins leaving messages, telling Nico to help Brooklyn, emotions come crashing to the surface.
As the nightmares escalate and the messages become relentless, Nico reaches out to Brooklyn. But neither of them can admit that they're being haunted. Until they learn to let each other in, not one soul will be able to rest."

I already finished Chasing Brooklyn and loved it, the review will be up next week! And I just started You Wish, only 50 pages into it, I'm really enjoying the main character and her attitude(:

What did you get in your mailbox?

Book Review #31: Forgotten

Forgotten by Cat PatrickTitle: Forgotten.
Author: Cat Patrick.
Pages: 288.
Format: Hardback.
Series: Nope.
Publisher: Little Brown.
Published Date: June 7, 2011.

Summary:

"Every night, while sixteen-year-old London Lane is asleep, her memory of that day is erased. In the morning, all she can “remember” are events from her future. London is used to relying on reminder notes and a trusted friend to get through the day, but things get complicated when a new boy at school enters the picture.
Luke Henry is not someone you’d easily forget, yet try as she might, London can’t find him in her memories of things to come. When London starts experiencing disturbing flashbacks, or flash-forwards, as the case may be, she realizes it’s time to learn about the past she keeps forgetting—before it destroys her future."

Cover: 5/5

I love everything about this cover! From the title taking over the whole thing, the font having lines through them, to the girl and her shadow in the background. When you take off the sleeve, instead of it being plain, with just Forgotten inscribed, its smooth, with Forgotten again taking up all the space(:

Characters-

Favorite:

Luke would have to be my favorite person in this story. He seems like such a sweet guy, and very patient! If I were him, I would get a little frustrated being with someone that won't remember what we did the other day, or even remember me at all. *SPOILER ALERT!!* Even though he should have told London, about him knowing her situation, he was just trying his best to keep her from being hurt.

Least Favorite:

London's best friend Jamie, I don't exactly hate her, but she just irritated me a couple of times throughout this story. How can she be mad at her friend, for wanting to protect her from getting hurt. Why would you get so angry with her, when all she wanted to do was help?

Story Line: 5/5

At first I was a little confused *SPOILER ALERT!!* with the whole forgetting the past, but remembering the future, but that went away after about chapter five.

The book kept me on the edge of my seat even to the last page! I loved the beginning, the middle and the ending. Even though we never truly find out what happens, I was satisfied with what I knew.

If you haven't read this book, I defiantly recommend you pick up a copy! It's a light read, and I was finished within three short days. But this isn't a summer-y book, so I wouldn't recommend taking it to the beach(:

Thank you so much for stopping by, and feel free to leave a comment down below!:D

Filled with heart-pounding romance, paranormal activity, and rich teen characters to love-and introducing an exciting new YA voice, Steven Wedel-this novel is exactly what Carrie Jones fans have been waiting for. Meet your next obsession."

Release Date: September 13, 2011.

I haven't really read any books on ghosts, especially not ones that are haunting and taking over someone's body! This book sounds really intense, and I really enjoyed Carrie Jones's Need series(:

Book Review #30: Th1rteen R3asons Why

Title: Th1rteen R3asons Why.
Author: Jay Asher.
Pages: 288.
Format: Hardback.
Series: Nope!
Publisher: Razor Bill.
Published Date: October 18, 2007.

Summary:

"Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier.

On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers."

Cover: 3/5
Yes, it is really pretty, but I feel like a cover could have been created that related more towards the actual story. Now, if Hannah would like to go to the park to swing and think about things, than yes. But I feel it has no real connection to the story line:/

Characters-

Favorite:

In this book I don't really have a favorite, but I really like a lot of the characters; Clay, Hannah, Tony, and Clay's mom. They all seem like people I would actually want to hangout with and become friends with.

What I enjoyed about Clay's mom, was that even though she was worried and knew Clay was lying to her about this "class project" that he had to do, she knew he was going through something. Still caring about him, like any mother should, also gave him his space and time for himself.

Least Favorite:

Again, I don't hate just one person, actually I hate a few! But here's one of them. What kind of a creep goes around spying on his classmate? *SPOILER ALERT!* One of Hannah's reasons of her suicide included when one of her classmates, is sneaking around outside of her bedroom window, snapping pictures. If I were in her shoes, I would have called the cops right away! What a pervert!

Story Line: 5/5

When someone commits suicide, you never really find out they did it. What could have brought them to want to end their own life? What could have been so bad?

This novel, by Jay Asher, describes the journey a boy named Clay goes through after a girl named Hannah committed suicide. This girl isn't just any girl, Clay has deep feelings for her, even though he feels like he barely knows her.

No one truly knew why Hannah wanted to end her own life, and no one know what was coming their way. Hannah had a lot of secrets people didn't know about. Well until a package was shipped to their door step. This package included, a couple of tapes and a map. Everyone that receives this package, has something to do with Hannah's death.

These tapes, include the thirteen reasons why, Hannah over dosed.
