Hey everyone! The new year is coming up soon, tomorrow actually! I coincidentally stumbled across this blog called
The Perpetual Page Turner, and saw the survey she was hosting! It looked like a lot of fun so I decided to answer the questions myself!
If you answer these questions yourself, leave a link to your post in the comments below! I would love to read what you have to say!
Here I go:
1. Best Book You Read In 2011?
Turning Pages was born late in February of 2011! I started this blog, when I found out I have a real passion for reading, reviewing, and recommending books to people. Throughout these last ten months I've read over sixty books! I can't even believe it! It blows my mind every time I think about how far Turning Pages has come in such a short time.
With reading and reviewing all of these books, I don't think I can just pick one! It's just too hard. The last really good book I read was The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab, check out
my review to see what I thought!
2. Most Disappointing Book/Book You Wish You Loved More Than You Did?
The Hungers Games! My friends at school, and my blogging buddies kept threatening me if I didn't read. Every review I read before hand said it was intense, action filled, and awesome! I finally went to my local Barnes and Noble and picked up my very own copy!
I don't think I picked it up for about two weeks!
The beginning was kind of slow. But my friend at school, kept reassuring me that it got better as I went along. And it did! But there were just things that bothered, and annoyed me. While I was reading, I felt like Katniss was just hiding the whole time, before she even went into the ring, she was always talking about her hunting skills. But the whole time Katniss was there, she didn't do much besides hide.
Even with this, I decided on reading Catching Fire, and LOVED it! I'm probably going to give The Hunger Games another try next year!
3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2011?
Most surprising book for me was City of Bones! I read the back and it didn't seem to catch my attention, it just wasn't what I usually enjoy reading. But my dad went ahead and bought it anyways, explaining to be as a blogger and reviewer I should be branching out and reading different things.
I actually started reading City of Bones that night, and was more than halfway through before I went to sleep that night!
4. Book you recommended to people most in 2011?
That would have to The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, by Maggie Stiefvater, I love that series!
5. Best series you discovered in 2011?
Pretty Little Liars! There are tons of new books by Sara Shepard that I need to read ( Pretty Little Liars books 8, 9, 10, 11, and her Lying Game series)! But I really enjoy her writing style!
6. Favorite new authors you discovered in 2011?
I meet and communicated with tons of great people through blogging, and book signings! I've had so much fun meeting authors, other bloggers, and just new people! Turning Pages has given me a huge opportunity!
The first author I meet was Kimberly Derting, she's amazing! She's funny, and great to talk to! I hope I get the chance to read her new books, The Pledge and the third book in The Body Finder series!
7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you?
Heist Society! I wasn't sure if I should read it, I was a bit hesitant. But after finally picking it up, I've built this huge love for books with mystery, secret agents and spies! LOVE them now!
Can't wait to read Uncommon Criminals, and Ally Carter's other series!
8. Most thrilling, unputdownable book in 2011?
Pure by Julianna Baggott! I'm reading it right now, and it's mind blowing! It's insane! I usually don't like reading books about the future, but this book change my whole mind set. Sadly I'm more than halfway through, I might have to read it again once I'm done(:
9. Book you most anticipated in 2011?
Haha! I don't know! I was excited about reading books, it didn't really matter to me if they just came out or if they've been out for a while. When I first started Turning Pages, and followed other blogs, I knew I was way behind, and needed to catch up with the book world!
But towards the end of 2011, the book was pretty excited about was Iron Queen! I haven't read it nor the second book yet, but I plan on reading and finishing the series in February!
10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2011?
Hands down, The Wolves of Mercy Falls has beautiful covers! And the color of the font matches the color of the cover, it's amazing! I haven't seen any other books that have that.
But I also really like the covers of the Mortal Instrument series, I'm also really excited about finishing that series!
11. Most memorable character in 2011?
Waverly in Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan! I usually enjoy romance stories, where the boy saves the girl he loves, and he sweeps her off her feet. But on the other hand, I do love a strong female character, that can take care of herself!
Glow is amazing, if you haven't read if yet you really should get your hands on a copy ASAP!
12. Most beautifully written book read in 2011?
Girl Wonder! I didn't think much of it at first! I didn't see many reviews, my very book talkative friends, never said one peep about it. I gave it a shoot, and it was amazing! Its about a girl who wasn't the smartest, but her main goal was to finish Senior year in high school, strong, and make it into college the next fall.
When she meets the most popular girl in her new school, and becomes friends with her. The main character finds out this girl, isn't what everyone thinks she is.
It was incredible how much her life changed in such a little time, and how she brought it right back on track before the book ended! Girl Wonder is a book, I could read ten times over!
13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2011?
No questions asked, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I know what it feels like to have someone you know commit suicide. And you just think, Wow, they could of just came to me and talked to me about. Or how could I have not noticed he/she was going through something so tough?
Thirteen Reasons Why, really opened my eyes! It made me feel every emotion! I loved it, and can't wait to read more from Jay Asher.
14. Book you can't believe you waited UNTIL 2011 to finally read?
Almost every book I've read! I didn't start blogging until two months into 2011! I was behind, and everyone was recommending books I should read. But if I had to choose one, I would say the Twilight series. I think that series and few other books, are what got me into reading, and blogging.
15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2011?
I'm not exactly sure! But you can just check out my Teaser Tuesday! Every Tuesday, I make a post with two teasers from the book I was currently reading at that time!
16. Book That You Read In 2011 That Would Be Most Likely To Reread In 2012?
Thirteen Reasons Why! It was such an intense book, I might have to read it a few times, to finally let it all sink in.
17. Book That Had A Scene In It That Had You Reeling And Dying To Talk To Somebody About It? (a WTF moment, an epic revelation, a steamy kiss, etc. etc.) Be careful of spoilers!
Beautiful Creatures!!! I honestly enjoyed it! But there was like four or five times where I wish I could have just jumped between the pages, and grabbed everybody by the shoulders and give them a good shake. I just felt like somethings where WAY too over dramatic.
